Development of North Bali Airport

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar has expressed support for the development of North Bali International Airport in Buleleng.

According to Minister Muhaimin, constructing an airport in northern Bali will facilitate improved access and foster growth within the creative economy by providing the island with two international airports.

“If the construction of this airport proceeds swiftly, empowerment efforts will progress rapidly as well. This prospect is highly encouraging, as it supports the expansion of MSMEs and further advances the creative economy,” Muhaimin stated in a written announcement on Friday (6/27/2025).

He also emphasized that the airport's development satisfies essential criteria for Bali’s advancement as a developed region. In particular, Muhaimin noted that enhanced transportation access is a key requirement which Bali now fulfills on its path toward regional development.

Coordinating Minister Muhaimin has called for the expedited development of North Bali International Airport. “Relying on a single airport for access will not be sufficient. There should be at least two airports to ensure adequate connectivity,” he stated. Currently, Bali is served by I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Badung Regency.

Minister Muhaimin also highlighted that Bali has fulfilled another critical requirement for development: legal certainty. “Bali offers legal certainty, which is fundamental to progress everywhere. When there is legal certainty, trust follows, and with trust comes development,” he explained.

He further emphasized the importance of Bali’s rich cultural heritage, noting that the traditions and values upheld by its people are hallmarks of a developed region. “The second essential factor is the tradition and culture that support and sustain development,” he added.

Minister Muhaimin’s statements align with President Prabowo Subianto, who has similarly pledged his commitment to constructing North Bali International Airport. President Prabowo’s vision includes transforming Bali into ‘The New Singapore’ and ‘The New Hong Kong’.

President Prabowo aims to foster comprehensive development across Bali, including upgrading healthcare services, enhancing tourism infrastructure, and improving accommodation facilities. He stressed the need for the new airport to be competitive with international standards: “We must ensure our airports match those in neighboring countries. Bali is the best location within the republic to achieve this goal,” he remarked.

The development of North Bali International Airport has been incorporated into the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for the 2025-2029 period.
Consequently, the North Bali Airport project appears to be moving forward towards realization.
