New Face of Lovina 2026
A Big Refresh to Welcome More Visitors!
Lovina is getting a new face. The Buleleng government has announced plans to redevelop the iconic coastal area, aiming to refresh its image and attract more visitors while preserving its unique charm. I Nyoman Sutjidra as regent of Buleleng mentioned that the redevelopment will be divided into three zones covering the coastal areas of Kaliasem and Kalibukbuk villages (radarbuleleng.id). These two villages has their own characteristic where Kalibukbuk is often seen as the “center” of Lovina because it’s where most of the restaurants, hotels, and the famous Lovina dolphin tours start. Meanwhile, Kaliasem is just next to it and adds to the coastal stretch, homestays, and a quieter atmosphere. Together, they helped shape Lovina as the northern Bali coastal destination.
The redevelopment zones will be divided in 3, each with a distinct focus aimed at honoring Lovina’s heritage while enhancing its appeal for both visitors and the local community. The central zone, known as the “zero point” of Lovina, will be centered at Tasik Madu Beach, a site of historical value as the true origin of Lovina before the iconic dolphin statue was built. The marina zone will focus on the area around Binaria Beach, designed as a hub for recreation and water-based activities. Meanwhile, the development zone will cover the jetty area, with to improve facilities and accessibility, including the possibility of building a pier.
Discussions regarding the pier have already taken place with the Ministry of Tourism. If the central government provides funding support, Sutjidra believes the project could significantly boost Lovina’s tourism potential, as the pier would connect directly with Banyuwangi and Gili Trawangan. Part of this plan involves improving transportation infrastructure especially by sea: fast boats, possibly new piers in Lovina to receive tourists (thebalisun.com). While authorities have mentioned the idea of a pier which require around Rp 15 Billion in funding. It seems more in proposal stage.
Sutjidra confirmed that the Detail Engineering Design (DED) has been completed and said the redevelopment process is expected to begin next year, with the tender targeted for January 2026 (radarbuleleng.id). As this long-awaited project moves forward, there is hope that the transformation will not only refresh Lovina’s image but also bring new opportunities for local communities and create a more vibrant experience for visitors.
