The Balinese 3 months Old Celebration

Baby Noura Telu Bulanin

Celebrating a Baby’s 3 Month Milestone in the Balinese Way

Joining Baby Noura’s Telu Bulanin Ceremony

We’re thrilled to share some joyful news from our team — our coworker Krismon and his wife, Ayu Safira, are now proud parents to a beautiful baby girl named Noura! Noura recently turned 3 months old, and in Balinese tradition, this is a special milestone marked by a sacred ceremony called Telu Bulanin — or the "Three-Month Ceremony."

3 months Ceremony

Telu Bulanin is a traditional Balinese ritual held when a baby reaches 3 months old (or 105 days after birth). The purpose of this ceremony is to purify the baby from cuntaka — a state of spiritual impurity. In Balinese belief, every newborn enters the world in an impure state, and this ritual is meant to cleanse and bless them. At 3 months, it’s believed that a baby’s five senses become fully active, and it’s also the time to welcome the presence of Sang Hyang Atma, or the soul, into the physical world.

Family Members

The Telu Bulanin ceremony includes a series of meaningful rituals:

  • Mebeakala — The parents purify themselves first before the baby’s ritual begins.
  • Offerings to Nyama Bajang and Kandapat — Spiritual entities believed to guard the baby during pregnancy are honored with offerings.
  • Blessing from the placenta — The baby receives a blessing from the offering dedicated to their placenta, which is seen as their spiritual sibling.
  • First haircut — A symbolic act to cleanse the baby from any negativity brought from birth.
  • Naming and touching the earth — The baby is officially named and allowed to touch the ground for the very first time.
  • Offering to Hyang Kumara — The child is blessed through offerings made to a manifestation of God who protects children.
  • Spiritual purification — A Hindu priest performs the final purification ritual for the baby.

Noura

This sacred tradition is more than just a ritual — it’s an expression of the parents’ hopes and prayers for their child’s future. Through this ceremony, Krismon and Ayu pray that Noura will grow up healthy, happy, and protected throughout her life. And from all of us — may Noura be surrounded by love, good health, and endless blessings on her journey ahead.
