Buleleng Hosts 2025 Vovinam Championship
North Bali Readies for Vovinam 2025
Buleleng is set to make history as it hosts the 8th Vovinam Martial Arts Championship, an international sporting event that will take place from November 1st to 8th, 2025. The competition will be held at the Tennis Sports Hall of Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) in Jinengdalem Village. Around 500–600 athletes from 20 countries will compete in this year’s championship. This championship is not only a competitive sporting event but also an opportunity to showcase the beauty of Buleleng to the international community.
During the Organizing Committee meeting at the KONI Buleleng Secretariat on September 30, 2025, I Nyoman Yamadhiputra was officially introduced as the Chairman of the Indonesian Vovinam Federation. In his address, Yamadhiputra highlighted the significance of bringing international attention to Buleleng through sports. “Usually, world championships are held in big cities like New Delhi, Hanoi, Paris, or Ho Chi Minh. Now it is Singaraja’s turn,” he said. “We want this sport to support sports tourism and bring Buleleng’s name to the world.” According to detik.com, his appointment reflects a strategic effort to strengthen Indonesia’s role in the global Vovinam community while promoting Buleleng as a new center for martial arts tourism.

Gede Supriatna, Deputy Regent of Buleleng and Chair of the Organizing Committee, expressed gratitude and pride for Buleleng’s selection as host, noting the event’s positive impact on local tourism and the economy. “With around 600 participants from 20 countries, along with officials and families, local accommodations will be full. They’ll not only compete but also explore and enjoy our attractions,” said Supriatna.
Meanwhile, I Ketut Wiratmaja, Chairman of KONI Buleleng, said that venue preparations are well underway, with mats and equipment imported directly from the federation. KONI Buleleng is also working with the Faculty of Sports and Health at Undiksha to ensure the event runs smoothly. “KONI Buleleng is ready to support, including fundraising and coordination with local institutions. We want this event to succeed and strengthen tourism, particularly in the sports tourism sector,” Wiratmaja added.
This year’s championship will feature 44 competition categories, including 29 artistic events and 15 combat events. Hosting this event marks a significant milestone for Buleleng not only strengthening its presence in international sports but also reinforcing its image as a vibrant and welcoming destination for global events.
