Best Tourism Village in North Bali - Pemuteran
Discovering Pemuteran Village: Where Human, Nature, and Culture Unite
Pemuteran Village, located in North Bali about an hour and a half from the Lovina area, is a hidden gem that blends natural beauty with rich culture. This charming coastal village offers everything from sacred temples and tranquil beaches to one of the most stunning underwater landscapes in Indonesia. The collaboration between nature and local culture makes Pemuteran truly special. Visitors can explore Batu Kursi Temple, enjoy a trip to Menjangan Island, or dive into the village’s
extraordinary underwater world.
A Sustainable Marine Paradise
Pemuteran’s ocean holds around 80% of its coral reef wealth, and the community has taken strong measures to protect it. What makes Pemuteran’s coral conservation unique is its use of a mild electric current to accelerate coral growth a method that has gained international attention. Adding to its uniqueness, Pemuteran is also home to an underwater temple known as Pura Taman. This temple was not naturally submerged but was intentionally placed underwater by the Reff Gardener environmental community as part of coral restoration efforts. Today, it serves as both a spiritual site and a thriving habitat for marine life.

Global Recognition for Local Efforts
Pemuteran’s dedication to sustainability and community collaboration has brought it worldwide recognition. The village received the ASEAN Tourism Standard Award for Community-Based Tourism 2023–2025. In October 2025, Pemuteran achieved another milestone being named one of the Best Villages 2025 by UN Tourism, the United Nations World Tourism Organization. The award ceremony took place in Huzhou, China, where Pemuteran joined the list of 52 best tourism villages in the world, selected from over 300 candidates across 75 countries.

The award was received by Indonesia’s Deputy for Tourism Destination and Infrastructure Development, Haryanto, alongside village representatives. According to bulelengkab.go.id, Gede Dody Sukma Oktiva Askara, said that this success is the result of strong collaboration among the community, local businesses, and government. “The preservation of marine life, coral reef care, and the collaboration between residents, entrepreneurs, and the government are what make Pemuteran stand out among other tourism villages. We hope this award increases visitor numbers while bringing positive impacts to the economy, culture, and environment.” said Dody.
